Every person carries a debt they didn't choose and can't repay — a break between who we are and who we were made to be. Scripture doesn't soften this. It names it plainly, then points past it.
Not as a threat, but as a diagnosis. You can't fix what you won't name.
And a debt like that has a wage. Left alone, it only pays one way.
Three words carry the weight of the gospel. Translation flattens them. Here's what they held in the original.
Jesus Christ — fully God, fully man — lived the life you couldn't and paid the debt you owed. Not a rule you follow. A substitution already made on your behalf.
He died. He was buried. On the third day, He rose — proof that the debt was actually paid, not merely postponed.
And He didn't wait for you to clean up first. The timing is the whole point.
Trust that Jesus is who He said He was, and that He did what Scripture says He did.
Tell God plainly — the distance, and your need for Him to close it. Confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and that what He did on the cross counted for you.
Accept what's already been paid for. Not earned. Received.
“God, I know there's distance between us, and I can't close it myself.
I believe Jesus died and rose again to close it for me.
